Some of the amazing people I met in one of Senegal Some of the amazing people I met in one of Senegal’s Fulani villages 🇸🇳

The Fulani people are one of the largest ethnic groups in Senegal. Traditionally they were nomadic, moving around with their herds of cattle. However, today their nomadic ways are becoming a thing of the past, and only a third still live in this way.

My experience visiting a Fulani village starts on the outskirts of Mbour, a large fishing town on Senegal’s Petite Côte. I found myself perched atop a wooden cart, stifling hot air blowing through my hair and dust in my eyes as a horse pulled us at a leisurely trot down a winding sandy trail that led past towering baobab trees. Beside me was a bag of gifts for the villagers - sweets and biscuits for the children as well as tea and sugar for the adults, and other essentials such as soap and laundry detergent - a thank you to the village for allowing us as guests.

It wasn’t long before the village came into view, consisting of a mixture of traditional, circular huts composed of stone and thatched roofing as well as more modern rectangular buildings made with brick, cement and aluminium roofs. Some homes even had electricity, an addition that I was told was installed just a week ago.

The welcome we received was wonderful. We were invited into people’s houses and given a tour of the village. We were even fortunate enough to meet the village Chief who was eager to welcome us into his home.

The kindness the villagers showed me is known as ‘teranga’, a way of life characterised by generosity and hospitality. It is ingrained in Senegalese culture and truly is humbling to witness.

I can’t wait to share my full experience with you eventually on my YouTube channel (link in description). Now I just need to get round to putting the video together!

quality is not the best but i really like this pic quality is not the best but i really like this picture. driving through the caribbean island of dominica 🇩🇲

dominica really blew my mind! most of the island is made up of raw, untouched jungle. there's a reason it's known as 'nature island'.

a zebra in etosha national park in namibia. etosha a zebra in etosha national park in namibia. etosha really is such a unique landscape, made up of salt pans, dried clay beds and dried mud flats. i went on a self-drive safari through the huge park and was delighted with the quantity of wildlife i saw.

i'm dying to return to the african continent but in the meantime, i'll share a few throwbacks from previous trips!
