Falling in Love with the Greek Island of Kefalonia
In September 2018, Lewis and I flew to the Greek island of Kefalonia. We would be spending just under a week in a gorgeous pastel pink villa in the island’s rural countryside.
Having booked last-minute, without any prior research, I hadn’t been sure what to expect.
Well, Kefalonia blew my mind! It’s an island of pristine beaches, fantastic restaurants and eerie ghost towns.
Below is a chronological list of all my blog posts from this trip.
Crash. What was that? I scratched my head for a moment before I resumed packing, slipping my last items into my hand-luggage before zipping it up proudly. Outside of my bedroom window, the wind raged. I could see leaves being thrown up and spun in a violent circle on my driveway. I was due to… Read More

From the moment we arrived in our pastel-pink villa in Kefalonia, I knew I’d stumbled across a hidden gem. The £30 a night cottage sprawled across the ground floor of an elegant house and contained a large double-bedroom, hallway, bathroom, dining-kitchen as well as our own private terrace. It was heavenly. It was in the… Read More

I tend to avoid anywhere hailed ‘the best’ usually because these areas are overrun with tourists and tacky shops and mediocre restaurants. Sure, they may have been the best at one point but as soon as the world knows about it, the world has a tendency to ruin it. Call my a cynic, but you… Read More

After spending our day at the beautiful Myrtos beach, it was time to enjoy some delicious Greek food. We briefly stopped off at our cottage to freshen up before we took a whim and decided to head over to the right peninsular of Kefalonia, or as I like to call it ‘the dangly bit’. We… Read More

During our trip to Mallorca earlier this summer, my sister, Scarlett, had told us about the benefits of sulphite-free wines. She informed us that it was the sulphites within wine that are responsible for hangovers and as a result, one should look for wines that don’t include ‘contains sulphites’ on the label. This dabble of… Read More

We’d had an explosive start to our Kefalonia trip. On the first day alone we visited one of the island’s most gorgeous beaches and dined at one of the finest restaurants that my tastebuds have had the pleasure of acquainting to. Today was our second day on the Ionian island and already we had sampled… Read More

I found Assos quite by accident. As we drove aimlessly up Kefalonia’s rugged coastline, I laid eyes on the little island jutting out to sea, attached to the mainland by one spindly tendril of land. Even from here, several miles away, the twinkling lights of houses drew me down. In my chest, I felt butterflies.… Read More

Our cottage was equipped with every utensil you can possible imagine from blenders to coffee makers, to tea filters. They also had a whole children’s set of utensils including my absolute favourite colourful plastic cups with faces on! Being stocked up to the high heavens with kitchen equipment, they also, naturally, had a corkscrew. Lewis… Read More

I’d endured a turbulent night in Kefalonia. After being struck down by a mystery fever, I had struggled to get so much as a wink of sleep and arose the next day feeling groggy and disorientated. I was so confused that I had convinced myself that my computer was struck down with a virus and… Read More

I stood gazing up at the towering wall of stone in front of me. Spindly trees, their branches void of leaves, grew out of the rockery at obscure angles, dangling over the broken road below where I was awkwardly stood. I shifted my clammy feet which slipped in the pools of sweat that had formed… Read More

I sat up curiously from my seat around our indoor dining table. In the distance was the unmistakable chorus of bells and each second their chiming got louder. What on earth? The frenzied jingling was accompanied by a thrumming of hundreds of hooves. I made my way to the window and threw open the shutters.… Read More

I remember sitting at home and browsing on my laptop for things to do in Kefalonia. Although I don’t tend to do that much planning before visiting a place, I do like to have a basic idea of the best spots to visit. An image of a vibrant cyan cave caught my attention. The water… Read More

The sun reached its peak in the sky before slowly crawling to the west. This afternoon, we’d be following the dying trails of the sun over to the west peninsular in Kefalonia. However, before we left the east coast altogether, I wanted to have one last stop-off to allow this part of the island to… Read More
